Kelp was originally formed in 2010 while Michael, Freddy, and Tim attended high school in San Diego. They had a great run for a group of kids, but like all great bands, they split up - each carving their own paths at different colleges in different cities. Their paths would keep them apart until fate brought them all back to San Diego in 2023.

Kelp wasted no time writing new music and quickly recorded their first EP "I-5" at Pacific Beat Studios. To save money, all of the tracks on their first album we're recorded live. The result was a raw, garage-rock EP that was an honest representation of how Kelp sounded in the back of an empty bar. They released "I-5" to the world on February 8th, 2023, and spent the next few months playing shows around San Diego proper.

After a few months of gigging, Kelp had built up enough new material to create their first album. This time around, they decided to take a different approach. Instead of renting studio time, they built up a recording studio in an empty room and did all recording, mixing, & mastering in-house. They released their first album “Datcho Dr” on January 28th and quickly returned to gigging and writing/recording new tracks.

Perhaps someday they’ll have enough money to pay somebody else to write these bios. But in the meantime, they’re just happy you read this much about them.
